Georgia-EU facilitated visa-regime takes effect from March 1. Deputy foreign minister of Georgia Nino Kalandadze said facilitated visa-regime has serious political significance for the country. It will support Georgian citizens to easily travel to EU states.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes this fact. It was serious political step taken by the EU to demonstrate their readiness to support Georgia in future too. We are ready to provide any interested person with additional information,” said Nino Kalandadze.

Facilitated visa-regime will work for several categories of Georgian citizens; among them are journalists, students and businessmen.

According to the official clarification of the MFA, the visa-fee for every citizen of Georgia will be reduced from 60 Euro to 35 Euro. The procedures to get visa for EU states have been simplified for 22 categories of citizens. In addition to that, citizens of 12 categories will be free from visa payment.

Besides that, 13 categories of citizens will need individual list of documents to provide for visa application. 11 categories of people will be able to take one-year multiple entry visa if they have already had similar entry in the previous year and used it in accordance to the legislation of the EU member state. After that, those citizens will be able to get 2 and 5-year multiple entry visas. Citizens of certain categories might have multiple entry visas up to the term of 5 years without additional procedures.

What Does Readmission Treaty Imply?

A readmission Treaty will also take effect tomorrow together with the Georgia-EU facilitated visa regime. InterPressNews tried to clarify the commitments that the Document stipulates.

President of the European Integration Study Center Vasil Chkoidze clarified that Readmission Treaty was enclosed to the agreement on the facilitated visa regime and it lists responsibilities taken by Georgian state.

More precisely, the principle mission of the agreement is to send illegal Georgian migrants from EU territory back to Georgia; consequently, Georgia is responsible to provide these people with temporary shelter and cover other expenses until their identification is estimated.

“The Treaty also envisages management and registration of the common data-base, management of the borders with modern standards, integration of our data base into EU data base and to get information who was registered as a migrant or an immigrant and to control all data at a high level,” said Chkoidze.

Vasil Chkoidze positively evaluated the Readmission Treaty and added that it will resolve immigration problem.

He said Georgian citizen will have more motivation not to breach visa-regime in order not to become illegal travelers in EU, they will return to Georgia in order to get visa through facilitated regime.

The President of the European Integration Study Center suggests the citizens of Georgia, who are already immigrated, to return to the homeland, to take at corresponding embassies in order to get EU visas through facilitated regime.
