Sagarejo Municipality Denies the Fact of Financing Versia Editor

March 2, 2011

Sagarejo municipality denies the statement of the Labor Party political secretary Giorgi Gugava that the newspaper Kakhetis Karibche (Kakheti Gate) belongs to the main editor of the newspaperVersia (version) Maia Purtseladze and that it is financed by the municipality.

“Samkhretis Karibche is published by Zura Agulashvili and Tina Ilauri. According to the Law on Purchases it has been ceased the financing of the local budget right now and has stopped working for now,” – stated Sagarejo Municipality governor Gia Chalatashvili to Kakheti Information Center.

Giorgi Gugava from the Labor Party held a press conference on February 28th and blamed the newspaper Versia in the anti-campaign against the Labor Party.

“Versia is one of the bribed newspapers and the founder of it is Maia Purtseladze who is financed by the government and fulfils the dirty orders against the Labor Party. This newspaper is financed by the Supreme Court. An article was published about us last week. Maia Purtseladze is also an editor of Kakhetis Karibche financed by Sagarejo municipality from where she received a 16 thousand GEL grant to fulfil the government orders,” – stated Gugava.

Versia chief editor calles Giorgi Gugava’s accusation absurd.
