Government Blamed in the Oppression of Businessman Paata Kandaurishvili

March 4, 2011

Political party “Democrat Movement” blames the government in the oppression and intimidation of their supporters and speaks about concrete facts.
The member of the political party council Ivane Chighvinadze stated today at the press conference that “Democrat Movement” and “Public Assembly” have become main threats and targets for the government.

“Besides serious problems which the party members have already faced in private business activities, the Government started physical oppression on our supporters; some of them were even arbitrarily detained. The government continues intimidation of those people who actively support the Democrat Movement and Public Assembly,” he said.

According to Chighvinadze, Georgian businessman Paata Kandaurishvili, who has business in Italy and in Georgia and who thinks Democrat Movement and Public Assembly are serious power in Georgia for changes, has become target of the government.

The Government arrested the general director of the Company SanMarko and his partner Nino Beridze and now request Kandaurashvili to arrive in Georgia and pay bail for her release.

“We are not going to hush up similar facts and will inform society about it. We will use all our resource in order to provide the international community and the Italian government with full information” Chighvanadze said.
