National Council Blames the Government in Mass Violation of Property Rights

March 14, 2011

Georgian opposition political party National Council blames the government in mass violation of the property rights.

Today, representative of the National Council Bidzina Gujabidze said at the press-conference that plots were seized from six families in Shrosha village in Lanchkhuti district based on the request of the Oil and Gas Corporation which extracts petroleum from the field.

Gujabidze said the plots were seized from the six families based on the court decision and were assigned to the Corporation without compensating the damage to the families.

“The National Council believes the Constitution of Georgia cannot ensure the property rights of Georgian citizens and the state legalizes illegal and injustice deprivation of private properties with the support of the Constitution,” Gujabize said.

According to Gujanidze, the National Council calls upon the Georgian president to order the authorized person – director of the Oil and Gas Corporation Zurab Janjghava to be fair with the property owners and compensate them with the damage.

In addition, the National Council urges the parliament and the officials working on the Constitution to start working on the amendments to the Law on Property Rights.
