IDPs Called Minister Koba Subeliani “Fascist” and Requested His Resignation

March 28, 2011
On March 25, an incident occurred near the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia where IDPs and youth branch members of the New Rights held protest demonstration.

More precisely, the demonstrators gave a five-minute to the Minister Koba Subeliani to meet them and to clarify to them how he received 98 040 GEL as a salary and bonus in 2010.

Koba Subeliani did not meet the IDPs within the requested time and the organizer of the demonstration Davit Patsatsia tried to enter the building together with other demonstrators; however, the security guard locked the door. The protesters requested to open the door and allow them into the building. The security guards allowed them into the ministry several minutes later.

As a result, Koba Subeliani met the demonstrators who requested him to resign immediately. The IDPs and members of the opposition party also requested him to clarify why he accepted almost 100 000 GEL as a salary and bonus in 2010.

Koba Subeliani confirmed their information about the salary and bonus but as for the resignation, he asked IDPs: “What do you want to hear from me? What do you want me to do – to resign or to resolve IDP problems step-by-step?”

The IDPs called Koba Subeliani “fascist” and person who lives at their expense.
