Article in “Kviris Palitra” Rescued Twin Sisters

March 28, 2011
Article in the newspaper “Kviris Palitra” rescued twin sisters.

Journalist for the Kviris Palitra Eter Eradze told the Interpresnews that several days before she received a message on her cell phone and read that a large family of Svanishvilis lived in a cattle-shed in Akhaltsikhe village in Kaspi district. The mother fed her prematurely born twin daughters with mint-tea because of lack of food.

“I arrived there on time. The mother has been feeding her 1-month twins with sweet mint tea for the last three days. The Svanishvilis are socially disabled family and I gave them my own money to buy Humana for children. When I entered their yard, the mother was chopping fire-wood and the father was drunk,” said Eter Eradze.

Eter Eradze wrote a long article about social-economic situation of the family and soon after the article was published, the Kaspi district administration granted 100 GEL monthly allowance to the twins. The staff of the newspaper “Kviris Palitra” collected clothes and food for the Svanishvilis.

The readers and employees of the linguistic institute also collected necessary items and food products for the family.

Eter Eradze personally took the collected food and clothes to the family in Akhaltsikhe village.

Nona Svanishvili, the mother, said they have four children; the elder is beneficiary of the SOS Children’s Villages and the other three live with them in the cattle-shed.

“When our family divided, we received a house under construction. When we faced financial problems my husband sold iron gate of the house; later we sold the iron materials of the toilet too,” said Nona Svanishvili.

Two weeks have passed since the article about Svanishvilis was published. However, the number of citizens, who want to assist the family, has not reduced yet and the food products and necessary items are still being collected for the family.
