Seven Children of the Makievs Will Get Allowances from the State

March 30, 2011

Because of unbearable living conditions, Social Agency involved all seven children of the Makievs living in Lapniani village in Lagodekhi district in the state program for socially disabled families.

Deputy Director of the district social agency Davit Dvalidze said two children of the family, who have disability problems, will be moved to a special asylum in Senaki; other four children will be fostered by families.

“The children, who will be fostered by families, will get social allowance - 450 GEL each per month. The seventh child – 8-month infant – will stay with the family and get food voucher of 80 GEL per month. The district social agency will permanently monitor the situation about the infant. Our social agent will visit the family once every week and check how reasonably the allocated sum is spent on the child,” said Davit Dvalidze.

He added that the Makievs family will still receive social allowances and have medical insurance policy for three members.

Kakheti News Center published a photo-reportage about the large family of the Makievs on March 17. The photo-reportage was prepared by the non-governmental organization Civil Activity Center in the framework of the project “Advocating People beyond Poverty Level in Kakheti Region.” The project is implemented by the program of the East-West Management Institute (EWMI) “Policy, Advocacy and Civil Society Development Project n Georgia (G-PAC).
