Caucasian Environmental NGO Network (CENN) published a report about the transformation of Georgian-Azerbaijan border. According to the conclusion, 69 spots of amended territories were detected on the border line near Alazani River. In 42 cases, the factual border line has moved inside Georgian territory and only 27 of them moved inside Azerbaijan. The total loss of Georgian territory amounted to 293 hectares.
According to the CENN, on the Azerbaijan side the lost territories do not exceed 224 hectares (it is noteworthy that unlike Georgian government Azerbaijan government controls most part of the territories left on our side of the Alazani River). In addition, as a result of visual exploration of the straight fields of the river embankment, specialists think the difference might further increase after the thorough field exploration.
Inter-governmental Border Delimitation Commission was established 17 years ago; however, the border-line has not been estimated between the two countries yet. Deputy foreign minister of Georgia Nino Kalandadze said Davit Gareji Monastery and Erisimedi village are still on the disputable territories of the two countries.
