Sergi Kakalashvili Fired Editor of Magazine “Tsiskari”

April 1, 2011

Businessman Sergi Kakalashvili, who owns 50% of the magazine “Tsiskari”, fired Editor of the magazine Zaur Kalandia. Newspaper “Alia” reported about it. According to the newspaper, the editor of the magazine was fired because of the poetry of Rene Kalandia about Sandro Girgvliani (a young man who was killed by high ranking officials of the MIA), which was published in the magazine.

“I might have published something that was not to be published. Maybe it is not good rhyme but it was dedicated to Sandro Girgvliani and I published it. I said I will resign but Tsiskari should be issued,” Zaur Kalandia told the Alia.

Sergi Kakalashvili, who will be editor of the magazine now, does not confirm Kalandia’s statement. “Zauri could not have said it. I have to continue publishing of the magazine as Ilia (Chavchavadze, famous Georgian writer and public figure) did it. This is reality in our literature world,” said Kakalashvili.

Sergi Kakalashvili is former director of the JSC Kakheti Puri (Kakheti Bread). He lives in Velistsikhe village in Gurjaani district and teaches history of Georgia in the village public school. Four years ago, the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili read Kakalashvili’s rhymes in the parliament.
