Akhmeta Municipal Board Doubled Land Payments

April 1, 2011

Akhmeta municipal board increased the land payment from 39 GEL to 82 GEL. Only Zakaria Kinkladze, board member from the Republic Party, did not vote for the decision. He said if the government wants to develop agriculture, the payment on the land shall not be doubled.

“If the government tries to develop agriculture, to employ people and create strong economy, some taxes, particularly the payments for the land, shall not be increased. When a peasant has to pay 82 GEL for the agricultural plot per year, when he has to buy one liter fuel for 2 GEL, 1 kilo of seed wheat for 1 USD and 1 kilo of seed corn for 18 GEL, when there are no proper equipment to cultivate the plots, when the irrigation systems are out of order, when chemicals and poisons are not controlled and peasants cannot get qualified consultations and taxes are increased, the agriculture will not be developed,” said Zakaria Kinkladze.
