Free Georgia Requests Increase of Pension to 100 Dollars

May 2, 2011

Free Georgia submitted draft law to the Parliament requesting the increase of pension to 100 dollars. According to the political party, one of the promises of Mikheil Saakashvili at 2008 presidentiary elections was to increase pension to 100 dollars equivalent since 2009. However, these promises have not been fulfilled up till now.

“The pension in Georgia does not even amount to minimum living standard. It varies discriminatly for the pensioners living in the regions and in Tbilisi. The President’s statement that the government is working on this issue, is too broad and the silence of other members of governments demonstrates that this is one more populist step and one more attempt to lie to the pensioners,” – states the leader of the party Kakha Kukava.

According to him, they are going to submit 30.000 signatures of supporters to the Parliament according to the legislation.

The average pension in Georgia is 50 dollars equivalent and it increases according to age and experience.
