Farmers Cannot Plant Corn in Kakheti Region

May 13, 2011

Farmers cannot plant corn in Kakheti region. They told the Information Center of Kakheti that the local authority has taken tractors to Lagodekhi district where they plant hybrid corn.

“We have been visiting mechanization service-centers for three weeks already. They have 2 tractors each – one of them is taken to Lagodekhi district and the second serves only those farmers who have plots with no less than 5 hectares. We are too late to plant corn and lack of transport complicates our situation even more. We were told they have to plant hybrid corn first and then others,” said the farmers.

The mechanization service-centers confirmed that they have sent tractors to Lagodekhi district to plant hybrid corn as it was instructed from the local authority. The tractors will return to service centers in Gurjaani, Sighnaghi and Telavi only after they finish work in Lagodekhi.
