Akaki Minashvili – 90% of Population Thinks Election Issue Is Not Problematic

May 17, 2011
MP from the parliamentary majority Akaki Minashvili said he cannot agree with the criticism about current election law. The MP said 90% of the Georgian population does not think that election issue is problematic.

Akaki Minashvili made the statement in reply to the MP Jondy Bagaturia from the opposition party Georgian Group at the plenary session today. Bagaturia said the work on the development of the election environment failed and he wondered why the government is not ashamed to hold the next elections with the same law.

Minashvili said the fact that the Georgian Group never wins the election does not mean that people and international community do not trust the elections. Minashvili suggested Bagaturia to read all international conclusions and see that the OSCE, which always monitors elections in Georgia, evaluates the elections in Georgia as progressive which demonstrates the will of the Georgian population.

“You should see the poll results among our population which states that more than 90% of them trust the elections and does not think that election issue is a problem in the country,” said Minashvili.
