Lasha Chkhartishvili Imposed with the Sentence of Administrative Imprisonment, Kardava and Batiashvilis Fined

On May 5th, the law-enforcement officials detained Lasha Chkhartishvili, Teona Kardava, Iriba Batiashvili and Maia Batiashvili for the attempt to hold a protest at Rystaveli Avenue. The trials were held yesterday.

Tbilisi City Court passed ten-day administrative imprisonment sentence against Lasha Ckhartishvili, one of the leaders of the Conservative Party. Chkhartishvili was charged with the offence of disobedience to police and minor hooliganism.

Irakli Batiashvili’s wife and daughter were imposed with 400-400 GEL fines by Tbilisi Civil Court. They were charged with the articles 166 and 173 of the Administrative Imprisonment Code which envisage minor hooliganism and disobedience to police.

The member of Civil Movement of IDPs Teona Kardava was imposed with 400-GEL fine and released from the court.

Irakli Batiashvili, one of the leaders of the Public Assembly was fined with 500 GEL because of the incident occurred in Tbilisi City Court. The incident occurred between Irakli Batiashvili and the bailiffs.

Batiashvili came to the court to attend the process of his wife and daughter. The process had already started. He requested to go in and started banging on the door that resulted in the physical argument with the bailiffs. Batiashvili was detained as a result.

The protest regarding the premiere of the 5 Days of August – movie on the August tragedy was planned in front of the Parliament building at Rustaveli Avenue. The police suppressed the protest at the outset.

The protest rally participants held posters saying “August Days are a holiday for Saakashvili, but tragedy for Georgia.”

Renny Harlin’s film 5 Days of August premiered at Rustaveli theatre on May 5th.
