Suspicious Revision in Mediapalitra – Revenue Service Simultaneously Conducts Inspection in 6 Enterprises of Media House

June 8, 2011

The Revenue Service simultaneously started inspection in six different units of media holding Mediapalitra on May 7th. The press services, publishing house Palitra L, the storehouse, printing house and storehouses of other enterprises were sealed.

“Revenue Service alleges that the inspection has not impeded the work of Mediapalitra and it will not be impeded unless the violations are discovered,” – states the newspaper Rezonansi (Resonance) in the article entitled: suspicious revision in Mediapalitra – the publishing house and storehouses are sealed/Revenue Service inspects six enterprises of Media House simultaneously.

“Only the storehouses have been sealed. The inspection simultaneously started in 6 enterprises. We are patient. The only thing that I can tell you is that it raises suspicion when they bypass the news agencies and enter the independent Ltds and simultaneously start inspection in six different enterprises. Though they are all part of Mediapalitra, they have separate directors, separate accounting system and in general, they have everything independent. They have entered the services of dissemination, publishing houses, book stores. This would not have raised doubt if, for instance, they entered the Biblus store in March, then in May – service of dissemination Elva… This would have been logic, but the fact that they simultaneously enter 6 different enterprises raises doubts – this can be perceived to be an indirect warning,” – states the head of Public Relations Department of Media House Palitra.

On the question of Resonance: “There are statements in social networks that all this might be connected to the objective covering of May 26th events by the Mediapalitra. What do you think?” Marika Darchia stated: I cannot exclude anything. One will definitely think about this. Palitra always tries to be objective and not to close its eyes to the developments. I cannot talk about direct connection with May 26th protest disruption, but I see the grounds for suspicion.”

According to the representative of Revenue Service Nugzar Tsulukidze, the inventarization does not envisage preliminary warning.

“As for the document revision, the notification has already been made about this and you can check it everywhere. Generally, there are inspections underway and it does not concern only Mediapalitra,” – added Tsulukidze who alleges that any storehouse of Mediapalitra will be able to renew their work as soon as they express desire.

“This is not sealing” – empathetically states Tsulukidze and explains that the storehouses are temporarily closed up until they need to start functioning. According to Tsulukidze, the closed enterprises will be soon opened – “this is scheduled inspection” and as soon as the accounting balance and the balance data is presented, the enterprises will continue to work in the usual phase,” – states the newspaper Rezonansi.

According to the newspaper, the journalist Ia Antadze stated in the program Resume in the live of radio Palitra that the unscheduled inspection by the Revenue Service was not unexpected. According to her, all media outlets which disseminate alternative information are undesired for the government.

As Ia Antadze stated the problem is not that the Revenue Service checks the documentation, the problem is how objective they are. We have seen this numerous times and it often raises doubts.
