Kakheti Information Center

Telavi Court passed guilty verdict against Maia Batselashvili, a music teacher of the Village Jimiti Public School. The teacher charged with the beating of a student was imposed with three thousand GEL fine as a sentence. Nunu Iremashvili, a teacher in Vazisubani Public School is also accused of beating her student, however she still works in the school and has not even received a warning.

The criminal responsibility of Maia Batselashvili was raised after the Imedi channel prepared a reportage over the beating of the student.

“Music teacher Maia Batselashvili hit a Panduri (musical instrument) in the head of her student who suffered with the brain concussion as a result and is under the treatment right now,” – reported the TV company Imedi.

The teacher was dismissed from the job after the broadcasting of Imedi reportage. Telavi Regional Court imposed 3000 GEL compulsory measure against her. The court found her guilty of crime. The teacher acknowledged the charge and signed a plea-bargain with the Office of Prosecutor.

“There was no other way. It was not possible to gain the verdict of not guilty. That is why she decided to sign a plea-bargain,” – states Maia Batselashvili’s lawyer Shalva Gogolashvili. Ultimitaely the judge of Telavi Court Mamuka Tsiklauri imposed fine as as a sentence and 3000 GEL paid as a bail was counted as a payment of fine.

If the criminal responsibility of Maia Batselashvili was raised quickly, the math teacher of Vazisubani Public School Nunu Iremashvili was not even summoned to the interrogation.

On May 20th in the internet newspaper of Kakheti Information Center an article was published entitled – “I will rip you head off with the heel of my shoe.” It is noted in the article that Nunu Iremashvili beat a fifth grader Luka Iaganashvili. The teacher punched his head to the wall and the desk. According to Luka’s classmates, this is not the first case of beating. The teacher beat another student Sergi Legashvili a while ago who suffered with nose bleeding as a result.

TV company Imedi made a reportage on this fact as well.  However it was not broadcast. The thing is that Nunu Iremashvili is a cousin of Kakheti Governor Giorgi Ghviniashvili. According to the witnesses, Nunu Iremashvili’s sister, the official of local government Aniko Iremashvili oppressed the journalists when they were taking video of Vazisubani Public School. She yelled that she was the Governor’s cousin and they did not have a right take a video of the public school.

Aniko Iremashvili denies this fact: “I did not oppress anybody. This never happened. Why did I have to do it? Nobody is disputing and what do you want to know?”

According to Kakheti Information Center, the press secretary of Kakheti Governor Khatuna Guliashvili called the Imedi journalists and asked them not to cover this incident. Khatuna Guliashvili denies this information.

The fact is that Nunu Iremashvili still works as a teacher and she has not even received a warning. Gurjaani Educational Resource Center states that Nunu Iremashvili never beat anybody and she is an exemplary teacher.
