Police Elaborates Story that the Disappeared Giorgi Kanashvili Left Georgia

June 17, 2011

On May 26th after Kakheti Information Center disseminated information on Giorgi Kanashvili’s disappearance, a police official visited Giorgi’s grandparents and told them that he saw Giorgi in Gurjaani several days ago.

“On June 14th Gurjaani police official came. He said that Giorgi met him several days ago and told him that he was collecting documents to start working and if it did not work out, he would leave Georgia,” – noted Giorgi Kanashvili’s grandfather.

Giorgi’s grandparents do not know the name of the police official. However, they think that if their grandchild has really disappeared, the police is intentionally elaborating the story that Giorgi has left Georgia.

Kakheti Information Center double-checked this information with the Gurjaani Office of Civil Registry Agency – whether the citizen Giorgi Kanashvili had addressed them for the last two weeks. The service stated that the citizen Giorgi Kanashvili has not addressed them in June of 2011.

27-year old Giorgi Kanashvili has not been seen since the disruption of protest rally on May 26th. The witness Davit Nikolashvili confirms that Giorgi Kanashvili was at Rustaveli Avenue during the disruption.
