Eric Fournier Talks about the Weaknesses of Georgian Media

June 21, 2011

Ambassador of France to Georgia Eric Fournier talked about the problems in Georgian media with the magazine Tbiliselebi.

On the question of the journalist how he would assess the weaknesses of Georgian media without diplomatic restrictions, the French Ambassador states that the problems of Georgian media are often noted in different reports.

Eric Fournier noted on TV channels with unclear owners, main editors who willfully choose the topics; journalists who apply self-censorship in fear of losing job; absence of Trade Unions for the protection of authorship rights; lack of qualification as a result of which the unchecked information is often disseminated and the problem of information access in the regions.
