People Detained during the Protest Disruption will Leave Telavi Detention Cell after 12 pm

June 24, 2011

11 prisoners detained during the disruption of protest rally at Rustaveli Avenue on May 26th will be released from the Telavi detention cell during midnight. The 30-day sentence ends after 12 pm.

“The term of the sentence expires after 12 pm. This is bad timing. The detention cells do not ensure the transfer of prisoners and they will have to leave Telavi at 1 am by themselves,” – stated the head of the Telavi Office of Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) Marekh Mgaloblishvili to Kakheti Information Center.

According to him, 7 prisoners imposed with 40 and 60 day sentences will remain in the detention cells.

Today, in the evening, the members of Kakheti regional organization of Free Georgia will gather at Telavi detention cell to express their solidarity to the party.
