Experts Work On Legislative Base for Eco-Migrants

On July 15, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm non-governmental organization CENN will hold conference together with the Civil Coalition for Migration Issues and the National Platform of the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum. The main topic of the conference is eco-migration and the related problems: Tbilisi, Hotel “Ambassador” main hall (Shavteli Str. # 13).

The scale of natural disasters has significantly increased recently; relatively the number of the eco-migrants is also increasing. Today, over 11 000 families live under risk; we also have victims of natural disasters.

Despite that, there is no state policy or strategy to resolve the eco-migration problems. The process of natural disaster management and accommodation, which unifies large specter of activities, is chaotic. Lack of management system for the migration issues results into inefficient expenditure of state funds and significant economical damage.

Urgency of the eco-migration problem and necessity of taking measures from the government’s side is confirmed by the last report of the Georgian Public Defender.

Representatives of the National Platform of the Easter Partnership Civil Society Forum, Civil Coalition for Migration Issues, Governmental Commission on Migration Issues, governmental institutions, public defender, public and international organizations and experts will participate in the conference. As a result of presentations, discussions and analyze they will work out the action plan which will be later sent to the corresponding institutions.
