Lasha Chkhartishvili – New Wave of IDP Eviction to Start on July 18

July 15, 2011

On Monday, July 18, the new wave of the IDP eviction will start; leader of the Conservative Party Lasha Chkhartishvili informed the Interpresnews about it.

He said the IDPs will be evicted from four buildings in Uznadze Street # 8, Kazbegi Ave. # 16, the kindergarten # 204 in Varketili and Samgereti Street # 13.

Chkhartishvili said the inhabitants of the above-listed buildings have already received notice about eviction which also offers them an alternative accommodation in various regions of Georgia. Chkhartishvili said the offered accommodations are not acceptable for IDPs because there are not proper conditions in them.

Representative of the Conservative Party does not exclude the possibility that IDPs will soon be evicted from other buildings too.

IDPs from Tskhinvali region living in Uznadze Str. # 8 said they received a warning from the Ministry of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees which states the building is a state property and not place for compact settlement.

According to the Ministry’s notice, the IDPs have 10 day to leave the building which expires on Monday. Unless they leave the building till Monday, the police will forcibly evict them.

The Ministry offers alternative accommodations to IDPs in Bakurtsikhe village, Gurjaani district, in Lagodekhi, Chkhorotsku and Zugdidi districts.

The IDPs said they are from Tskhinvali and cannot live in Chkhorotsku district.
