Four Officers Dismissed from MIA Because of Dispersal on May 26

Based on the decree of the Minister of Interior four officers of the MIA were dismissed, one was demoted, three were severely reprimanded and eight were reprimanded because of the dispersal on May 26. Shota Utiashvili, head of the analytic department at the MIA, stated at the briefing on Friday, July 15.

The names of the dismissed police officers were not mentioned at the briefing.

General Inspection of the MIA studied the facts of disciplinary violations by officers based on the petitions from the prosecutor’s office, public defender and non-governmental organizations as well as based on the materials spread by Georgian media sources.

The MIA website reports that “MIA officers breached disciplinary rules when dismissing the illegal demonstration on May 26, 2011.”
