Transport Fees Increased on Old Route Mini-Buses in Tbilisi Too

July 19, 2011

Transport fee on several old route mini-buses also were increased in Tbilisi. Drivers of the route mini-buses # 122, 171 and 109 told Interpresnews that Tbilisi City Hall ordered them to increase fees up to 80 tetri because nobody traveled by route mini-bus # 4 which has already increased fees. So, the City Hall decided to rudely interfere in the contest of route mini-buses.

However, they said part of passengers still pay 50 tetri. “We cannot request people to pay 80 tetri. People cannot afford to pay increased transport fees in parallel to other increased communal expenses,” the drivers complained.

Old mini-buses run on the abovementioned itineraries - # 122 and # 109.

The transport fees were increased from 50 to 80 tetri after new yellow mini-buses appeared in Tbilisi. However, the City Hall promised the fees will be increased only on new mini-buses.

It is interesting that representatives of the Company “Tbilisi Mini-Bus” categorically deny any oppression on the drivers to increase the fees.

Head of public relation service of the Company Teona Nioradze told the Interpresnews that nobody compelled the drivers to increase the fees. She thinks, the drivers made selfish decision because the fee was increased only on the route mini-bus # 4.

“I definitely know that nobody oppressed the drivers. Yesterday, we also learned that fees were increased on several mini-buses too. I think it was their selfish decision. We cannot control old route mini-buses. We can control only # 4 because new cars work on it,” said Teona Nioradze.

Nioradze also denied information about the new instructions from the Tbilisi City Hall to increase the transport fees; she said “the City Hall has nothing to do with it.”

The officials from the City Hall said they have no connection with the increased transport fees on the old route mini-buses.
