Chairman of the Supreme Court Rewarded Judges of the Batumi City Court

July 19, 2011

On July 15, chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia Kote Kublashvili awarded the judges of the Batumi City Court with pens. “Leave clearer and stronger signatures on your judgments,” the chairman told the judges.

At the meeting, Kote Kublashvili spoke about the survey results carried out in May of 2011 with the support of international organizations. According to the survey, big part of citizens trusts the Batumi City Court.

Kote Kublashvili: “I wanted to underline the effect of the activities of the Batumi City Court. We should really appreciate the deed of the judges. The goal of our reform was to pass 100% trusty judgments. People go to the court and personally observe the activities of the court and see the fair decisions of the judges; so, their 68% fully trusts the court.”

The chairman of the Supreme Court stated based on the survey that big part of the society trusts the courts. However, Kublashvili said the absence of non-guilty judgments for the last few years in the Batumi City Court was result of the good job of the prosecutor’s office. “The non-guilty judgment is not indicator for the activities of the court. Last year, the prosecutor’s office dropped prosecution on 7% of cases before submitting them to the court. They in advance knew, the court would pass non-guilty verdict on them.”
