Lawyer Naira Otiashvili was Handcuffed, Detained for Four Hours and Fined by 400 GEL by the Court

Tbilisi City Court imposed administrative sentence 400 GEL fine against the judge Naira Otiashvili of Administrative Colleague Department of Tbilisi City Court.

As the head of Lawyers Association of Georgia Zaza Khatiashvili stated to interpressnews, the trial took place at night at 1:00 am.

According to Zaza Khatiashvili, the lawyer Keti Bekauri protected interests of Naira Otiashvili. The video tape presented by Keti Bekauri which would prove the innocence of her client and the crime committed by the bailiffs was not shared by the judge.

“By this action the judge violated paragraph I of article 6 of European Convention of Human Rights and did not allow the party to present evidence. By this action, the judge directly acknowledged that he is Vano’s judge and he is not interested in any evidence,” – stated Zaza Khatiashvili.

The incident between the lawyer Naira Otiashvili and the representatives of Execution Bureau took place yesterday when by the order of the Bureau the destruction of the citizen’s wall started at Tsinamdzghvrishvili St. in Tbilisi.

Otiashvili filmed this fact by video camera that irritated the representatives of Execution Bureau. The lawyer was handcuffed and her liberty was restricted for four hours.

According to the lawyers, the handcuffing and illegal restriction of liberty is the abuse of authority by the Bureau representatives.

As Keti Bekauri stated to interpressnews, the representatives of the Execution Bureau have no right to detain and handcuff anybody. Due to this reason, the criminal case should be stipulated according to articles 332, 222 and 144 of the Criminal Code which envisage abuse of authority and illegal hostage taking.

According to Keti Bekauri, the detention of lawyer takes place if he/she committed some crime.
