Davit Jandieri: “Government probably is not going to submit complaint against the decision of ECHR”

July 25, 2011

Georgian government supposedly is not going to submit complaint to European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) regarding Girgvliani case, - states the lawyer of Girgvliani family Davit Jandieri.

According to the lawyer, the Georgian government considers that the decision is directed against them and he does not want to once again lose this case. They do not want to complicate this situation and it is under their interest to hush up this case.

According to Jandieri, three months for submitting complaint against ECHR expires tomorrow.

The Minister of Justice of Georgia will have to issue an administrative act in a month regarding the measures that he will take to implement this decision.

According to Jandieri, the decision of ECHR will be transferred to the Committee of Ministers and he is sure that the Committee will not only request 50 000 Euros from Georgian government, but a new investigation and punishment of offenders.

According to him, according to the practice of ECHR decisions, it is not the court who indicates the government what measures must be taken to reinforce the decision, but the Committee of Ministers.

ECHR made decision regarding Girgvliani case on April 26th.
