Eka Beselia Disobeyed the Judge

August 3, 2011

On July 27th Tbilisi City Court judge Vera Dolidze dismissed the lawyer Eka Beselia from the court room. Beselia was conducting monitoring of trial of the defendants charged with the blocking of Adjara TV and resistance to the police. The judge Vera Dolidze banished her from the court room. Beselia states that they argued due to putting the prosecution and defense in unequal conditions.

Eka Beselia: “There was a moment when the lawyer Ramin Papidze tried to defend his positions but the judge warned him and interrupted him. It was absolutely unacceptable for me to see how unjust the judge was towards the defense side. Naturally I had a protest and told her that she violated the law and restricted the right of defense. Mrs. Dolidze had a discomfort that I sat in the court room. She could not put up with me and made a completely ungrounded decision. First she said I had to stand up… I will never stand up on the request of the judge who does not respect law.”

Eka Beselia plants to raise the issue of Vera Dolidze’s disciplinary accountability before the High Council of Justice.
