Ozurgeti Governor Detained for Complicity in Appropriation of 180,000 GEL

Governor of Ozurgeti municipality Giorgi Takidze is arrested under the charge of appropriation of 180 thousand GEL.

According to the Office of Main Prosecutor, Takidze is charged with taking 20,000 GEL-bribe from Merab Kurdghelashvili, head of the Cleaning Service of Ozurgeti.

As the Office of Prosecutor explains, due to the violations revealed after the inspection of work of Ozurgeti municipality the head of cleaning service Merab Kurdghelashvili has been detained. He is charged with appropriation of 180 thousand GEL out of million and ten thousand GEL received from the 2010-2011 budget.

According to the investigation, Kurdghelashvili was under the patronage of the Governor of Ozurgeti municipality Giorgi Takidze. The investigation is underway. In case the crime is affirmed Takidze will face 15-year imprisonment. The anti-corruption department of Georgian Office of Prosecutor continues to study the legality of budget spending.
