26.8% of Respondents Supporting Idea of Creation of International Tribunal to Judge Saakashvili

August 5, 2011

Radio “Ekho Moskvi” is conducting pubic inquiry on its official web site. The quiestion is: Do you support Dimitri Medvedev`s idea of creation of International Tribunal for Mikheil Saakashvili. The respondents have opportunity to express their position by internet as well as by phone calls.

69% of respondents who answered the question by internet do not support the idea. 26,8% consider that Saakashvili must be judged by the International tribunal and 15% abstained from answering.

As for the phone calls: 69% of the respondents also do not support the idea of International tribunal for Saakashvili, against 31% who supported it.

In the Interview with PIK, Russia Today and radio Ekho Moskvi, the President of Russia stated that he would support the idea of International tribunal for Saakashvili, but at this point it seems to be unrealistic.

“If I was asked, I would say “Yes.” I just think that attack against South Ossetia in 2008 was a violation of international law. Considering that it is impossible to rely on only Russia’s position I think that it is impossible to create such tribunal at this stage,” – stated Medvedev.
