Bidzina Giorgobiani Released from Prison in Spain

Bidzina Giorgobiani is released from prison in Spain. He stated following on facebook on his friend’s web page.

“I was released at 11 pm. But I was not supposed to leave Spanish territory for two weeks. Germans worked hard. I was seriously rescued. I went on vacation with my children and got pursued by Interpol. It was horrible 3 weeks and I even wrote a book in the dark,” – states Giorgobiani.

Police of Spain detained the former head of Georgia Forest Department on August 21st. He was on vacation with his family in Spain.

Georgian law-enforcement searched Bidzina Giorgobiani by Interpol through international circle. However, Germany gave him political asylum.

Giorgobiani was accused of abuse of authority and abuse of official authority. Georgia declared Giorgobiani wanted several years ago. Georgian court imposed sentence in absentia against him. Giorgobiani considers to be politically persecuted.

According to the existing information, Georgia side requested transfer of Giorgobiani from the state of Spain.
