Police Spying on Rustaveli Theater Actor Beso Zanguri

August 25, 2011

Police is spying on Rustaveli Theater actor Beso Zanguri. Zanguri’s friends disseminated the following information on facebook.

According to his friends, a black jeep with license plate 575 is standing near Zanguri’s house and is spying on him. “One of his guests was almost stuffed in the car.”

Not too long ago the former art director of Rustaveli Theater Robert Sturua disseminated similar information on facebook. However, he did not name the actor: “One actor called me… They spy on him… intimidate him… These guards of “democracy” sit in the jeeps and intimidate their guests…”

Robert Sturua’s dismissal was protested by almost every actor. They made a special statement and noted that Roberts Sturua still remains to be their art director.

On May 23rd several actors stated that if Robert Sturua is not restored to his job in Rustaveli Theater they are ready to take the most radical steps including boycotting plays and refusing to open up the season.

The Culture Minister Nika Rurua signed the decree of his dismissal on August 9th. The decree took force on August 15th. According to the Minister, Sturua was dismissed for xenophobic expressions.

Sturua received offering from several theaters of Russia. Yesterday he stated that he agreed on Et Cetera’s offer.
