Metallurgy Factory of Kutaisi Hercules to Hold Warning Strike on September 2nd

August 31, 2011

Employees of Kutaisi metallurgy factory Hercules will hold warning strike on September 2nd, reports Trade Union to interpressnews.

The strike will request to restore six dismissed employees to their jobs and improve the work conditions. In case the requests are not fulfilled the mass-scale strike is planned.

This factory belongs to the Ltd EurasiaSteel. The Trade Unions will wait for the response of the leadership of the company for 72 hours according to the law. The written warning about holding a strike was sent to the head of the Council of Directors of Ltd EurasiaSteel Paata Chkhenkeli, manager of Kutaisi metallurgy factory Raji Kumar Sureka, Minister of Health, Public Defender Giorgi Tughushi and other individuals fully complying with the legislation.

The strike will be headed by the representatives of Initial Trade Union Organization of Hercules and Trade Unions of Metallurgy, Mountain and Chemistry Industry of Georgia.

The Trade Unions state that the initial Trade Union Organization was founded in the factory Hercules on August 4th. This decision was taken due to the inhuman conditions of workers in the factory.

“The biggest problem is the labor contracts, work time, shift schedule and issuing payment, vacation and bulletins according to the work load. For three months the indexation of the salaries has not taken place,” – states the Trade Unions.

According to the information of Trade Unions, instead of conducting dialogue the factory administration addressed repressive methods. On August 11th six members of committee of Trade Union organization were dismissed. Moreover, the dismissed individuals were told that they would be returned to work if they wrote the explanation note and “repent that without preliminary agreement with the administration they created underground secret organization and are sorry for it.”
