Mini-Bus Driver Intending to Transport Supporters of Kakha Kukava’s Political Party Fined with 200 GEL

September 15, 2011

Mini-bus driver Zura Nasrashvili, who had to transport supporters of the political party Free Georgia from Dedoplistskaro to Samtatskaro, was fined with 200 GEL by local police.

“We had hired the driver to transport people. On the same day, head of Dedoplistskaro district police department Giorgi Bunturi called him and compelled to refuse us to transport people. He threatened him with creating serious problems and additionally imposed 200 GEL fine on him. Finally, we managed to transport the party supporters by Vazha Arabuli’s mini-bus; though law enforcement officers threatened him too. The scared driver abandoned us in Samtatskaro. The police officers instructed the owner of the vine-yard not to allow the party leaders into his garden and threatened with withering his vine-yard. Despite that, Rezo Ananidze did not obey their orders. On the previous day, Samtatskaro district governor Paata Nadirashvili and police inspector Imeda Tagoshvili warned mini-bus drivers and supporters of the opposition political party not to attend the meeting,” Tamila Gurashvili, head of Dedoplistskaro office of the Free Democrats reported to the Information Center of Kakheti.

The ICK got in touch with the fined driver but he refused to make comments on the fact.
