Tinatin Khidasheli Calls Upon the Government To Make Information About Application VS Russia Public

September 21, 2011

Tinatin Khidasheli calls upon the government of Georgia to make the information about application VS Russia sent to the Strasbourg Court public. On September 20, the member of the Tbilisi City Council from the Republic Party said at the press-conference that Georgian citizens lack possibility to forecast about the case discussion at the Court.

“Decision of Georgian government about classifying international lawsuits is obscure. Taking such amendments to law is groundless and incomprehensible. We have paradox situation – the case materials becomes known to the second side, though Georgian population does not have access to it”, Khidasheli said.

She says that by this decision, the Georgian state does not have possibility to receive qualified advice from any qualified person who can provide them with valuable and important information.

Republicans wish success to the representatives of Georgia and hope that litigation of the Georgian side will be better prepared and well-grounded in Strasbourg Court than in Hague court.

Public hearing of the case Georgia vs Russia will be held in the European Court of Human Rights tomorrow. Georgia accuses Russia of breaching human rights and basic freedoms guaranteed by European convention during the Russian aggression and after occupation of sovereign territory of Georgia.
