Priest Theodore (Gignadze) not Allowed to Hold Lecture in Tbilisi State University

September 29, 2011

Priest Theodore (Gignadze) was not allowed to hold lecture on the foundations of Christian doctrine in building 8th of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

As the security of University stated to interpressnews, on October 3rd, the hall was being organized due to starting new academic year and the stage and hall lamps were being replaced.

According to congregation of priest Theodore, the lecture would not have hindered the replacement of lamps or the process of the lecture.

The idea of holding a lecture on the foundations of Christian doctrine belongs to the magazine “Karibche.”

While talking to interpressnews, editor of the magazine Karibche Tamar Mamatsashvili stated that she has never had a problem regarding holding lecture in the hall of the university. However, she received a call yesterday and was told that the lectures are cancelled.

“It was agreed with the Public Relations Service of Patriarchate to hold lectures. However, they called me yesterday and told me that according to the decision of rector’s office the lectures would not be conducted in the building of university,” – Tamar Mamatsashvili stated.

According to her, prohibiting lectures in Tbilisi State University is connected to spreading negative information against priest Theodore in social networks.

According to Tamar Mamatsashvili, Mama Theodore is accused of racism which is not true.

Priest Theodore denies the accusations and notifies the Patriarchate regarding the black PR against him.

Priest Theodore and people interested in lecture went to the union of journalists where they were given a hall to hold lecture after an unsuccessful try to enter the building 8th of the state university.
