Ten Witnesses To Be Interrogated Regarding the Lawsuits of Journalists Victimized on May 26

The court will question ten witnesses regarding the suits of journalists victimized during the dispersal of May 26 protest demonstration.

The Tbilisi City Court has already finished preparatory session of those suits.

The next hearing is scheduled at 11:00 am on October 26. The defendant – Ministry of Internal Affairs – will introduce its response to the lawsuit after what the main session of the court will be appointed and the process of witnesses’ interrogation will start.

Seven journalists filed lawsuits VS MIA to the court – journalists of the NetGazeti Konstantine Stalinsky and Tazo Kupreishvili; Nato Gogelia of the newspaper Guria News, Newspaper “Batumelebi” Ltd, Chokhatauri Matsne, Ltd, “Akhali Ambebi” Ltd, and Radio Center “Plus”.

Journalists and media organizations request the Georgian MIA to reimburse the damage caused by law enforcement officers when they injured them and damaged their equipment during the dispersal of May 26 protest demonstration.

Journalists said that before filing lawsuit to the Civil Court, they appealed to the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and requested launch of criminal case though in vain.
