Official of Constitutional Security Department Convicted of Murder Sentenced to 18 years in Prison

30-years old Davit Chotalashvili convicted of deliberate murder of two young people was sentenced to 18 years in prison, according to decision of Judge of Telavi Regional Court Mamuka Tsiklauri.

According to the correspondent of Kakheti Information Center, family members of the deceased young people from Telavi were requesting life sentence against Chotalishvili. After the judge declared the resolution part of the decision, they left the court hall in noise and noted that they are going to submit complaint to the Appellate Court.

According to the charge-sheet of Kakheti Regional Office of Prosecutor, on July 8th of 2011, the official of Constitutional Security Department of Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Davit Chotalishvili killed 21 years old Shota Batiashvili and Giga Gemazashvili from his work gun. Chotalishvili also shot Giorgi Datukishvili but missed. Giorgi Datukishvili managed to escape.

In the testimony given to court Chotalishvili noted that 12 men tried to snatch gun from him before shooting. Besides, one of the opposite sides was holding something in his hand that was shining under the lamp, according to his statement.
