Tamar Chugoshvili of GYLA Evaluates Citizenship Derpivation from Ivanishvili as Violation

October 17, 2011

Chair of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association Tamar Chugoshvili evaluated the deprivation of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s Georgian citizenship as violation of the law.

Chugoshvili told journalists that reportedly the person acquired Georgian citizenship in compliance with the Georgian law after he already had French and Russian citizenships. Consequently, depriving the citizenship claiming that he possessed citizenship of other countries, contradicts the Georgian law.

“According to the official information, the Public Registration Agency alleges that Ivanishvili lost citizenship because he acquired citizenship of another country. The lawyers claim that the businessman received Georgian citizenship after he already was citizen of foreign countries. Consequently, the decision of the PRA cannot be lawfully justified,” said Chugoshvili.
