Several Hundred People Opened Accounts in Cartu Bank

November 3, 2011

From early morning of November 3, a lot of people started gathering near the office of Cartu Bank in Chavchavadze Avenue, Tbilisi. By midday, about thousand people were there who wanted to open accounts in the bank to express their solidarity with Bidzina Ivanishvili.

The office was overcrowded and citizens filled in the accountant applications in the street.

Representatives of various non-governmental organizations also arrived at the bank. Head of TV-Company “Kavkasia” Dato Akubardia also joined the solidarity demonstration.

The representatives of the NGOs said the government is unfair with Bidzina Ivanishvili and they want to express their solidarity with the business by opening accounts in his bank.

The solidarity action started several days ago with the initiative of Poet Davit Magradze.

“We are obliged to prove that Georgian society still exists,” said Magradze on October 31 when he opened account in Cartu Bank; he was first to respond to the abolishment of bank accounts by several organizations. The poet believes that it was not decision of the employees of those organizations but of their administrations.

“If those people are allowed, I am sure they will open accounts in Cartu Bank. Everybody will come here and continue cooperation with this bank,” said Magradze.

Davit Magradze did not name the amount of deposit money on his account in the bank.
