Russia Does Not Cede a Small Village to Abkhazia

November 11, 2011

News Agency Apsni Press reports that Russian and Abkhazian parties could not reach agreement regarding a small village of Aibga in Gagra district.

The issue was discussed at the meeting of the state border delimitation commission which lasted three days in Sokhumi.

Abkhazian side introduced their Russian colleagues with the document “Arguments of Abkhazian Commission about Abkhazian Village Aibga and about Demarcation of Abkhazian and Russian State Border at the Psou River”.

The parties agreed that it is necessary “to estimate location of state border near Iabga village.” They also agree to ensure free travelling for villagers. Groups of experts shall be created who will work on the demarcation of borders.

After three-day negotiations, the parties signed protocol which underlined the necessity to continue negotiations. The Russian party proposed two draft-agreements to the Abkhazian party – “State Border Between Russian Federation and Republic of Abkhazia” and “Demarcation of Naval Borders in the Black Sea.”
