Free Democrats Welcome New Initiatives Regarding So-Called Recreants

November 11, 2011

Political party “Free Democrats” welcomed the decision of the government of Georgia to cancel deadline obligations for the settlement of arguments between recreants and legal owners of the properties.

Deputy chair of the political party Thea Tsulukiani said at the press-conference that several days ago, on November 6, after seven-month consultation with their representative to the Parliament of Georgia Gia Tsagareishvili, National Movement refused to postpone the deadline and agreed only to cancel court payment for applicants; but yesterday, they decided to satisfy not only their request but completely discharged the recreants from all responsibilities.

Tsulukiani added as a result of this decision, several thousand citizens will not become homeless on January 1, 2012.

“We appreciate similar approach of the National Movement towards the proposals of the opposition party and we suggest them to reinforce similar culture in their political mentality,” said Tsulukiani.

In April of 2011, Free Democrats submitted legislative initiative to the parliament and requested to postpone the deadline for recreants till January 15, 2015.

On November 10, reportedly, the Tbilisi City Hall submitted a new draft-law to the Parliament of Georgia which aims to abolish restrictions for the parties to settle their argument before January 1, 2012.

The Tbilisi City Mayor Gigi Ugulava informed the society about the draft-law together with the chair of Parliamentary Committee of Human Rights and Civil Integration Lasha Tordia, MPs Archil Gegenava and Andro Alavidze and member of the Tbilisi City Council Sevdia Ugrekhelidze.
