Ex-Candidate of De-Facto Presidential Elections Beaten in Tskhinvali

November 24, 2011

Ex-candidate of the de-facto presidential elections in Tskhinvali Vadim Tskhovrebov was beaten. ICMM was reported from Tskhinvali that the director of the baking factory was beaten by supports of the leader of the united opposition parties Dzambolat Tedeev.

Allegedly, Tskhovrebov was beaten after he expressed his sympathy towards Anatoly Bibilov, the candidate of de-facto presidential elections who participates in the second round of the elections on November 27.

On November 13, de-facto presidential election was held in South Ossetia. 11 candidates participated in it. Anatoly Bibilov, de-facto minister of emergency situations of SO, ranked the first place in the polls; de-facto education minister Ala Jioeva ranked the second place; she was nominated by the leader of opposition parties Dzambolat Tedeev and former secretary of the de-facto security committee Anatoly Barankevich. Since none of them could cross the 50% barrier, the second round between those two candidates will be held on November 27.

Official Tbilisi does not recognize the de-facto presidential elections of South Ossetia though unofficially Georgian side supports Ala Jioeva in the polls. Akhalgori district residents told the ICMM that Georgian law enforcement officers from the Georgian checkpoint in Odzisi village, Dusheti district suggested local people to vote for Jioeva.

Trustees of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti regional governor Tsezar Chocheli suggest the IDPs from Akhalgori district living in Tserovani settlement to vote for Ala Jioeva.
