Transparency International Georgia published the results of Corruption Perceptions Index 2011. Georgia ranks 64th out of 182 countries and scored 4.1 on a scale from 10. In 2010, Georgia scored 3.8 ranking 68th out of 178 countries.
Georgia’s score is better than the score of several members of EU. Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria received lower scores.
“The new CPI shows that perceived corruption in Georgia is lower than in several European Union member states, including Slovakia, Italy, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria and lower than in Croatia, the next country to join the EU, and the other countries in the Western Balkans. Turkey ranks 61st (score: 4.2) and thus slightly higher than Georgia. Perceived corruption in Georgia’s other neighbors is much higher: Armenia ranks 129th (2.6), Russia and Azerbaijan share place 143 (2.4),” – Transparency International Georgia states.
The countries with the lowest perceived corruption in the world are New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Singapore. At the bottom of the list are Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, North Korea, and Somalia.
