Action in front of Parliament in Support of Belarusian Political Prisoner

Action in front of Parliament in Support of Belarusian Political Prisoner

Tomorrow, on December 1st at 15:00 pm. Human Rights Center will hold a protest action in front of Parliament building to express solidarity to Belarusian human rights defender, political prisoner Ales Bialiatski. The member organizations of Tbilisi Human Rights House support the action.

Last Thursday, on November 24th Minsk Court sentenced Ales Bialiatski, Vice-President of International Federation of Human Rights and the President of Human Rights Center Viasna to four and a half years in prison under strict regime conditions and a confiscation of property.

The state prosecution accuses the prominent human rights defender in the concealment of taxes on an especially large scale.

Ales Bialiatski had been actively involved in the human rights activities before his arrest on August 4th of 2011. His work was fully transparent. He defended rights of victims of political repressions.

Despite the absence of evidences, the charge against Ales Bialiatski was imposed by the methods provoked by the State Security Committee of Belarus the goal of which was to stop the human rights activity of organization Viesna and Bialiatski.

Human Rights Center calls on the public organizations, media and all citizens for who the democratic values and human rights are valuable to join the solidarity action planned in front of the Parliament building.
