“Tolerant” Prepared a Roll About Problems of Muslim Meskhs

December 8, 2011

Samtskhe-Javakheti regional association “Tolerant” created a roll about humanitarian aid and prevention mechanism. Film-director Marine Germanishvili created the roll in Georgian, English and Azerbaijan languages.

The roll of the Tolerant is focused on important problems of Muslim Meskhs who were deported from Georgia.

In 2007, the Parliament of Georgia adopted a Law on Repatriation which allows the deported Meskhs to repatriate to their homeland after having taken certain procedures. However, they cannot obtain Georgian citizenship which creates various problems for them. For example, they cannot purchase a house because they cannot register it; they cannot receive pension; school children cannot receive public school certificates.

All abovementioned problems are highlighted in the roll.

The Association presented the roll on November 30 in the office of the Caucasian University for Peace, Democracy and Development. The roll was prepared in the framework of the EU funded project (Humanitarian Aid for Repatriates, prevention of self-repatriation).

A documentary will be prepared on this issue in near future.
