Aleksandre Ankvab Is Not Going to Deliver Construction Materials for Sochi Olympiad

December 9, 2011

Head of Sokhumi de-facto regime Aleksandre Ankvab is not going to deliver construction materials for the Sochi Olympiad, the Russian media reported about it.

Self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia delivers only restricted amount of inert materials for the construction of buildings for Sochi Olympiad. President of the separatist republic Aleksandre Ankvab said Moscow can hope only for 2 million cubic meters of inert materials.

He said materials can be obtained only in the River Kodori that is ecologically safe for Abkhazia.

“Ecologists oppose to use other rivers in Abkhazia for similar purposes. We cannot allow turning Rivers Psou, Bzipi and Gumista into enterprises,” said Ankvab and added that Abkhazian government will estimate restrictions for the transportation of construction materials.

“We will not allow transporting the materials by vehicles because the roads will be damaged. They can transport the cargo by trains,” said Ankvab.
