Information about Signagi District Governor’s Arrest not Confirmed

December 16, 2011

Kakheti region deputy governor Giorgi Sibashvili denied the spread information about the detention of former Signagi district governor Nodar Kochlamazashvili.

“It is impossible. Nobody has arrested Kochlamazashvili. He resigned based on his own application,” Sibashvili told the ICK.

Nodar Kochlamazashvili was resigned from his position today. According to the ICK, the motive of his dismissal was case of transport department. Reportedly, several days ago employees of the department were detained together with the head of the same department Rezo Tukhashvili for unreasonable expenditure of budget funds. According to unverified information, the district governor had made a corruptive deal with Tukhashvili. Allegedly, the law enforcement officers intended to arrest the governor, but he escaped the detention with the support of his son Avtandil Kochlamazashvili and Kakheti region governor Giorgi Gviniashvili. His son is a prosecutor in the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia; and Gviniashvili is the relative of the family.

Nodar Kochlamazashvili has not replied to our phone calls yet. His former deputy Aleksandre Bokolishvili implements the governor’s duties.
