On December 15, the Coalition for Freedom of Choice held a special press-conference in the office of the Human Rights Center.

The Coalition presented the analysis of ongoing civic-political procedures which demonstrates problems of media and facts of human rights violations connected with pre-election political processes.

The Report pays particular attention to the persecution against a new actor in Georgian politics – Businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, his supporters and relatives. The document also revealed unpleasant practice of firing people from jobs on political grounds. Mass removal of press distribution booths in Tbilisi is one of the main media problems as well as intimidation of journalists and interference in their activities.

The Coalition member organizations believe the monitoring of the election environment shall start now and not after the Election Day is fixed,” the joint statement of the Coalition founders.

Executive director of the Human Rights Center Ucha Nanuashvili spoke about human rights violations during the press-conference. Head of Georgian Media Club Magda Popiashvili and representative of Georgian Media-Monitoring Center Ia Mamaladze spoke about politically motivated dismissals of people from various public agencies and about persecution and oppression on media representatives.

Representatives of the international organizations and US Embassy in Georgia attended the press-conference.
