Tbilisi City Court Partly Satisfies Lawsuit of Bidzina Ivanishvili and Ekaterine Khvedelidze

December 27, 2011

The Tbilisi City Court has partly satisfied the lawsuit of Bidzina Ivanishvili and Ekaterine Khvedelidze.

Judge Shota Getsadze satisfied part of the suit concerning Ekaterine Khvedelidze’s Georgian citizenship and annulled the President Mikheil Saakashvili’s decree on stripping off the citizenship from the businessman’s wife.

Additionally, the Judge imposed payment of 100 GEL court tax on Mikheil Saakashvili in favor of Ekaterina Khvedelidze.

As for restoration of Bidzina Ivanishvili’s citizenship, the court did not satisfy this part of the lawsuit. Lawyers are going to appeal the court’s decision.

Georgian citizenship was stripped of Bidzina Ivanishvili and Ekaterine Khvedelidze based on Mikheil Saakashvili’s order on 11 October 2011.

On December 26, Bidzina Ivanishvili received an official document from Russia vie the Swiss Embassy which states that Russian Federation suspended his Russian Citizenship based on his personal application.

Ivanishvili applied to the Swiss Embassy concerning Russian citizenship on October 17. Currently Ivanishvili holds only French Citizenship.
