Every employee of the Poti City Hall and city council received double salaries as bonuses for New Year. Socially disabled children received sweets from Barambo Company and the City Hall paid 3,2 GEL for the present of each child.

Socially disabled families did not receive holiday aids for the New Year Holiday. However, as it usually happens, the government granted bonuses to their employees before the New Year.

40 000 GEL was envisaged for the single material aid for the socially disabled population in last year’s budget and it was already spent by December 22. Simultaneously, the Poti City Hall allocated three times more – 130 000 GEL for the bonuses of public servants.

Violeta Jgamadze, head of Healthcare, Social Welfare and IDP Department at the City Hall, said 476 families received aid from the local authority in the framework of the aid program. Each family received an allowance of between 50 and 100 GEL.

In the framework of a New Year’s Celebration Program, large families and one thousand socially disabled children received a set of Barambo Sweets and attended free New Year performances in Poti Theatre.

The local budget allocated 25 000 GEL for the New Year celebrations; 3 200 GEL was spent on the gifts for children that made 3,2 GEL for each child.

About 275 employees of the public agencies usually receive bonuses 6 times per year on various holidays. Last year, total 577 000 GEL was spent on their bonuses (105 000 GEL was allocated for Christening Day, 107 000 GEL – on Easter; 105 000 GEL on St. Mariam’s Day; 130 000 GEL on St. George’s Day; 130 000 GEL for Christmas and New Year).

In every case, the motive of granting bonuses was the Law of Georgia on Public Agencies in the decree of the city council’s chairman.

According to the law, employees shall be fostered for a perfectly performed job or for an extra, long, honest, particularly hard or important job.

Nevertheless, the decrees do not clarify which of the abovementioned circumstances became motive for the local authority to grant bonuses to their employees.
